About The Position

The Farm Worker / Tractor and Agricultural Machinery Operator is responsible for supporting daily operations in a pecan orchard located in the Las Cruces, New Mexico region. This position combines general field activities with the safe and efficient operation of tractors and agricultural equipment for crop maintenance, production, and care. The employee will participate in tasks such as weed control, irrigation, planting, application of agricultural inputs, and general orchard maintenance. Likewise, they will operate agricultural machinery as needed, ensuring its proper use and performing inspections and basic preventive maintenance, including daily checks, greasing, filling out checklists, and timely reporting of any anomalies. Workers are expected to have skills or willingness to learn to operate tractors and agricultural equipment; training will be provided if there is no prior experience. This role requires availability for physical work, adaptability to various agricultural tasks, and compliance with safety, quality, and productivity standards in the field.

Requirements

• Experience in agricultural farm work is required.
• Good verbal communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic math knowledge.
• Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
• Knowledge and compliance with OSHA safety regulations.
• Compliance with internal company safety policies and rules.
• Practical skills for agricultural work.
• Attention to detail and sense of responsibility.
• Good driving record.
• Ability to pass a drug test.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Availability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods in the field.
• Availability to work shifts of up to 60 hours during certain times of the year (high demand seasons).
• Compliance with mandatory use of uniforms, safety equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in operating agricultural machinery is preferred, but not mandatory (training will be provided).

Responsibilities

• Maintain fields free of weeds, dead wood, and debris.
• Perform manual planting of trees and support crop cultivation activities.
• Operate machinery and agricultural equipment, including tractors (depending on skill level).
• Maintain and operate irrigation systems, including irrigation ditches and systems.
• Apply agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
• Perform basic repairs on fences, buildings, and agricultural structures.
• Participate in general field activities as required.
• Extra activities may be assigned.
