About The Position

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. We are a true farm-to-table company with an integrated portfolio including food processing and food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching and cattle production, and other enterprises related to agriculture. This role monitors automated irrigation systems to ensure that water orders are carried out for the successful growing of crops.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one or more months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Regularly required to sit and use hands to handle, manipulate or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, talk and/or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Knowledge of farm systems or an agriculture background is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors activity of all farm pivots, ensuring that crop manager’s water orders are being followed. Includes watching pivot movements, start and stops, water depths, and degrees.
  • Regularly record pivot activity, watching for changes outside of the prescribed water orders.
  • Monitors activity of all farm pump stations to ensure pumps are turned on and off in coordination with water orders, and that all systems are operating correctly.
  • Answers phone calls, taking messages or directing to the correct person.
  • Operates truck scale and completes scale tickets to ensure commodities are documented.
  • Basic office duties to include filing or copying.
  • Helps to maintain cleanliness of office.
