About The Position

This position assists in research and diagnostics related to the efficient operation of the Research farm/team. Responsibilities include participating in sanitation, housekeeping, and preventative maintenance for the Research farm. The role requires solid skills in operating farm and research equipment with efficiency and accuracy, following research OAWs, and collecting data with a high level of accuracy. The position may involve assisting in diagnostics such as necropsies and collecting organs for research, collecting samples, and maintaining/recording experimental data. Maintaining cleanliness of animal facilities and cleaning/disinfecting barns after studies are also key duties. The role participates in all activities related to developer/breeder and grow-out programs, including EPIC activities, feed management, and egg pickup. The individual will request replacement parts and ensure adequate parts inventory. They are accountable for the condition and upkeep of all buildings and assets on the farm and must ensure all biosecurity, safety, and preventative maintenance guidelines and policies are followed. The ability to lead weekend work in compliance with test-specific needs is required, potentially with farm staff or interdepartmental staff. Related duties as required will also be performed.

Requirements

  • Practical work experience, such as previous farm experience required.
  • Experience in raising poultry and husbandry are essential.
  • Requires knowledge or ability to attain knowledge of Duck Well-being.
  • Ability to identify problems as they relate to poultry health, performance and well-being.
  • Utilizing supporting problem-solving methodology.
  • Ability to collect live animal data such as growth, feed consumption, carcass composition, biological samples, and make observations of duck behavior and health status.
  • Ability to incorporate established Live Production operating analysis worksheet (OAWs), biosecurity guidelines, Animal well-being and company policy.
  • Time Management skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and work according to a schedule.
  • Expected to calibrate and use sophisticated scientific equipment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; use of tact when confronting issues within the company.
  • Can be trusted with confidential information.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn how to perform a necropsy, including organs, harvest for dissection and study.
  • Ability to use aseptic techniques in culturing samples of animals and for hatcheries and farms environments.
  • Position does perform duties with some low to moderate level of pathogen exposure.
  • May be exposed to abrasive chemicals.
  • Schedule to include weekend, Holiday work and extended hours to meet research project demands.
