About The Position

This position requires the individual to live on the farm premises and be present at all times unless approved by a supervisor. The role involves working in chicken houses, performing maintenance, operating machinery, feeding birds, and handling dead birds. Due to strict biosecurity procedures for disease control, candidates must not own live birds and must adhere to guidelines regarding visitors. The work environment can be dusty, with ammonia present and dim lighting, which may not be suitable for individuals with extreme allergies.

Requirements

• Must relocate and live on premises.
• Must stay on the farm at all times unless approved by supervisor.
• Must be able to communicate fluently in English.
• Must be able to read English efficiently and perform math skills.
• Cannot own live birds.
• Cannot visit pet shops, flea markets, or friends/families where birds exist.
• Must adhere to strict biosecurity procedures regarding visitors on farm and house/land premises due to disease control for farm(s).

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance work in and around chicken houses.
• Operate machinery to mow grass around houses and in fields.
• Push a wheelbarrow containing 100+ lbs of feed to put feed out in pans.
• Pick up and dispose of dead birds (weighing 6+ lbs each) in pits.
• Work round the clock in cases of inclement weather, such as power outages, to care for birds.
• Work in chicken houses with live birds.
• Work approximately 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the chicken house.
