About The Position

This position requires the individual to live on the premises of Ellison Farm and be present at all times unless approved by a supervisor. The role involves working in a chicken house environment with duties including maintenance, operating machinery, feeding birds, and disposing of deceased birds. Strict biosecurity procedures must be followed. The environment can be dusty with ammonia and dim lighting, which may not be suitable for individuals with extreme allergies.

Requirements

• Must be able to communicate fluently in English.
• Must be able to read English efficiently.
• Must possess math skills.
• Cannot own live birds.
• Cannot visit pet shops, flea markets, or friends/families where birds exist.
• Must adhere to strict biosecurity procedures regarding visitors on farm and house/land premises due to disease control.

Responsibilities

• Relocate and live on premises.
• Stay on the farm at all times unless approved by supervisor.
• Perform maintenance work in and around the chicken house(s).
• Operate machinery to mow grass around houses/in fields.
• Put feed out in pans, which may require pushing a wheelbarrow with 100+ lbs of feed.
• Pick up and dispose of dead birds (weighing 6+ lbs each) in pits.
• Work round the clock in cases of inclement weather, power outages, etc., to care for birds.
• Work in chicken house with live birds.
