About The Position

Join the City of Peoria’s Neighborhood & Human Services team as a Youth Services Programmer and make a lasting impact on the lives of local youth every single day. This is more than a recreation job – it’s an opportunity to mentor, lead and create meaningful experiences for children and families through the community. The Youth Services Division is seeking an energetic, compassionate and dependable individual to help bring Peoria’s youth programs to life across 21 elementary school sites. From before and after school programs to full-day summer camp experiences, you’ll help create engaging, enriching and safe environments where youth ages 5-14 can learn, grow and build lifelong memories. A strong commitment to safety, accountability and compliance is essential in this role. You’ll help ensure all program operations align with City policies and Arizona Department of Health Services (DHS) regulations while maintaining a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for every participant. Requirements

  • Two year college program or equivalent combinations resulting in accumulation of similar knowledge or skills.
  • 2 – 4 years of experience.
  • Sound knowledge of common and uncommon techniques, concepts, methods, practices, use of forms, routines, etc. of a complex nature.
  • Valid AZ Driver’s License upon hire.
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate within 2 weeks of hire.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Class 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their success.
  • Energy, creativity and enthusiasm in group settings.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to lead with patience, positivity and professionalism.
  • A commitment to safety, teamwork and exceptional customer service.
  • Experience in childcare, youth programming, education, recreation or related fields.

Nice To Haves

  • Work requires moderate physical exertion. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 10 and 25 pounds. The need for physical stamina and endurance is of some significance. Work could involve a moderately taxing and fatiguing degree of physical strain.
  • Experience serving as a lead or acting in a lead role.
  • Experience with interactions that require tact, diplomacy and persuasiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Help coordinate and deliver engaging recreational and enrichment activities for youth participants.
  • Support safe, high quality program operations across multiple school locations.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with state licensing regulations.
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, guardians and school staff.
  • Assist with training, motivating and evaluating part-time seasonal employees.
  • Create an environment where children feel safe, included, supported and excited to participate.
