About The Position

Family Support Specialists at A Blessing of Hope Family Services are passionate about making a difference in families' lives by working with kids and partnering with parents on their journey to become the best they can be. The role involves supervising visits in the client home and community during evenings and regularly on at least one weekend day each week. The families served have had children removed from the home due to allegations of abuse and/or neglect. During supervised visits, specialists provide engaging parenting skills assistance, help strengthen family bonds, and offer in-the-moment redirection and parent coaching to promote safe and successful reunification. Specialists also act as advocates, set goals with caseworkers and families, document progress, report concerns of alleged abuse/neglect, testify in court as needed, and provide transportation for children and families.

Requirements

  • Reliable Transportation to safely transport children and meet families.
  • Valid insurance and drivers license required.
  • Clear Communication and strong documentation skills.
  • Positive Rapport with families to build trust and provide meaningful support.
  • Prior experience working with kids, crisis intervention and conflict resolution, and knowledge of child development and the child welfare system.
  • Candidates must be at least 21 years old.
  • Clear criminal history and a driving record with no more than three points assessed.
  • Strong written communication skills for accurate and unbiased documentation, as well as excellent verbal communication skills via phone and email.
  • Driver's License (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field (Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise visits in the client home and community during the evenings (2pm-8pm) and regularly at least one weekend day each week.
  • Provide engaging parenting skills assistance, help to strengthen a family’s bond, and in the moment redirection and parent coaching in order to promote the safe and successful reunification of families.
  • Act as an advocate for the families, setting goals with the assistance of the caseworker and families.
  • Document progress.
  • Report any concerns of alleged abuse/neglect.
  • Testify in court as needed.
  • Provide transportation for the children and families we serve.
  • Work closely with families and the Department of Health and Human Services to help them reach goals set by their caseworker.
  • Facilitate visitations between children and their families, providing safe and reliable transportation to and from visits.
  • Maintain accurate and unbiased reports of each visit.
  • Help families find and apply for resources that support their path to reunification and well-being.
  • Provide direction, coaching, and motivation to achieve the goals set by DHHS, and the court.
  • Supervise the protection and safety of the child and adult participants.
  • Maintain consistent and open communication with the DHHS, and your manager about your work with the families.
  • Build great rapport with the families we serve.
  • Ensure that professional working relationships are created with families within your scope of duties and training.
  • Submit written incident reports within 24 hours and submit service documentation and mileage for all cases within 36 hours of providing the service with families.
  • Transport children and families to and from visitations.
