About The Position

YWCA Seattle King Snohomish is seeking a Family Support Specialist to deliver services for residents that are strength-based, personalized, and designed to equip families with the skills and support they need to achieve housing stability. This role involves assessing needs, identifying strengths and barriers, and assisting clients in reaching their personal and housing goals. The position also supports community members with job readiness skills, connecting them to Work Source resources, conducting assessments, providing job training workshops, and assisting clients with job retention, wage progression, and money and time management skills. Responsibilities include maintaining client progress records, completing reports on demographics and program outcomes, entering data into the Safe Harbors HMIS system, working with employers to develop job opportunities, and facilitating resident meetings, support groups, job clubs, and workshops. The role emphasizes a social justice component, requiring critical thinking about external systems, racism, and intersections with poverty. Core principles of anti-racism, working in non-white environments, and championing anti-racism policy are required. The organization highly encourages people of color to apply.

Requirements

  • Experience working with communities of color.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty.
  • 2 years professional experience in providing case management services to families.
  • Professional experience as a service provider in areas of crisis intervention, domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health, employment services, low income and homeless families.
  • Knowledge of community services available in Seattle-King County for low-income families.
  • Knowledge of Seattle-King County low income, public and subsidized housing programs.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance.
  • Critical thinking around how external systems impact work through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty.
  • Knowledge of core principles of anti-racism.
  • Ability to work well in non-white environments.
  • Ability to champion anti-racism policy.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver strength-based, personalized services to equip families with skills and support for housing stability.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify strengths, barriers, and assist clients in reaching personal and housing goals.
  • Assist community members with job readiness skills, connecting them to Work Source resources.
  • Conduct assessments, provide job training workshops, and assist clients with job retention, wage progression, and money/time management skills.

  • Enter data into the Safe Harbors HMIS system.
  • Work with employers to develop job opportunities and ensure clients meet workplace expectations.
  • Facilitate resident meetings, support groups, job clubs, and workshops.
  • Develop office protocols for a strength-based, culturally relevant, and holistic approach.
  • Provide coordination, support, supervision, and scheduling for support staff (Family Support Specialists, Custodian, Office Assistant, Volunteers, Interns, Practicum Students).
  • Review and submit timesheets for all support staff.
  • Ensure Family Support Specialists complete internal tracking sheets.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety practices follow YWCA policies and procedures.
  • Assess client's basic needs at entry and ongoing.
  • Provide clients with support services and/or make referrals or linkages to other community agencies.
  • Work as a member of the case management team and in partnership with other community service providers.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community service providers.
  • Maintain complete and accurate client files.
  • Prepare and submit reports that meet YWCA and program contract requirements.
  • Facilitate resident meetings, educational classes, workshops, and presentations.
  • Meet with clients on a regular basis, maintain case files, document services provided, and track client progress and referrals.
  • Initiate and develop relationships with local employers for job and internship opportunities and client placement.
  • Support clients in maintaining employment following placement.
  • Identify employer needs for skills and training.
  • Implement all work by incorporating the YWCA’s Social Justice Initiative.
  • Develop and implement Quality Assurance, Procedural Flow Charting, and system development for housing services.
