About The Position

HonorBridge is the largest Organ Procurement Organization in North Carolina, partnering with hospitals, transplant centers, and other partners to coordinate the organ and tissue donation process. They are passionate about inspiring the community to register as organ and tissue donors and providing support to the families of those who give the gift of life. Due to growth, HonorBridge is recruiting a Per Diem - Family Support Coordinator to conduct services related to HonorBridge Family Services programs for families of potential organ donors. The Family Support Coordinator empowers potential donor families to donate organs, tissues, and eyes, completing necessary authorizations and interviews. Providing support both remotely and onsite, the Family Support Coordinator will educate families about donation while collaborating with hospital clinical teams to facilitate conversations. Performance is measured by the outcome of the conversation, which includes advocating for the potential donor’s voice, and the recipients waiting for transplants. This position includes 16-hour call days, and individuals must be prepared to be onsite when on call.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 1+ year of OPO experience in requesting authorization required
  • Able to interact with grieving families in a supportive, empathic manner while taking into consideration cultural diversities.
  • Able to maintain composure in challenging circumstances while navigating emotions and other higher needs from family or hospital partners
  • Able to work autonomously with a high level of self-motivation and well-developed time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Valid state driver’s license required and ability to travel throughout HonorBridge’s Donor Services Area
  • Must be prepared to be onsite at one of the “A” hospitals in HonorBridge’s donation service area for assigned shift(s)

Responsibilities

  • Must be available to pick up at least two shifts per quarter
  • Required to attend training and complete document acknowledgements at least once per quarter
  • Responds to hospitals and collaborates with hospital partners to determine relevant information, family dynamics, and advocates for donation opportunity
  • Identifies family needs, assesses their understanding of patient’s prognosis, and determines most appropriate opportunity to speak with family about donation
  • Ensures family is supported and being provided education on donation and the donation process while advocating for organ, eye, and tissue donation
  • Facilitates donation conversation and completes authorization and necessary paperwork
  • Provides care and information to the donor family throughout the donation process
  • Responds to calls and inquiries from donor families with concerns or questions. Refers donor families to appropriate community resources, provides them with HonorBridge materials and information, and refers them to HonorBridge’s Family Resource program
  • Collaborates with HonorBridge Administrators on Call, Organ Donor Coordinators, and Hospital Liaisons to ensure a high level of customer service
