About The Position

The Family Support Associate role is critical in instructing and providing guidance to homeless and at-risk children in activities designed to promote social, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth in the childcare zone. This role is for someone who feels called to serve in a Christian Ministry and wants to make a difference in the lives of others. Atlanta Mission provides life-transforming experiences for everyone that joins their team: employees, clients, donors, and volunteers. They serve over 1000 men, women, and children every day by providing food, shelter, clothing, counseling, vocational and spiritual guidance.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • At least 2+ years of experience working with children, preferably in a daycare, school, or shelter setting
  • Demonstrated understanding of developmental milestones for both infants and school-aged children
  • Ability to read, interpret, and lead weekly lesson plans and supplemental developmental activities
  • Completion of Mandated Reporter Training within first 30 days of hire
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Supervises individual and group volunteers working in childcare and others as assigned
  • Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing, sitting and/or walking)
  • Must have the ability to constantly operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, calculator and computer printer
  • Must be able to communicate accurate information
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25lbs
  • Must have the ability to identify and distinguish colors, to adjust focus and maintain close and distance vision
  • Ability to engage in active play, lift infants/toddlers, and manage the physical demands of a high-energy "KidZone" environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Child Development, Child Development Associate Certificate or a related field is highly preferred
  • Teaching certificate or Child Development Associate Certificate (CDC) preferred
  • Adult & Infant CPR/First Aid certification

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a clean, age-appropriate, and sensory-friendly space; ensures all equipment is sanitized and safe for communal use.
  • Executes weekly lesson plans and supplemental activities tailored to the developmental needs of children in transition.
  • Facilitates activities that encourage positive interaction and bonding between mothers and their children.
  • Provides attentive care and support for Mothers with infants (feeding, diapering) and academic support/tutoring for school-aged children.
  • Leads group play to develop social, behavioral, and academic skills, focusing on following instructions and cooperative play and family engagement.
  • Uses trauma-informed guidance to manage behavioral issues and de-escalate emotional distress.
  • Documents and communicates developmental or behavioral concerns to the Children’s Resource Specialist and Services team.
  • Assists with transportation for families and helps coordinate special facility events and holiday celebrations.
  • Steward volunteer relationships by providing guidance and direction on engagement with families within KidZone.
