About The Position

This position drives a Salvation Army truck along a scheduled route to pick up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customers. The driver operates the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations. Responsibilities include lifting, carrying, loading, and unloading a variety of donations such as furniture, appliances, and clothing. The driver ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times and assists in performing work in the thrift store and warehouse.

Requirements

Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.
Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck.
Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (50-100+ lbs.) donations, i.e. furniture, appliances, etc.
One (1) year experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van.
Valid Driver’s License
Current DOT Clearance

Nice To Haves

High School Diploma or G.E.D., preferred but not required.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

Confers regularly with the Dispatcher to maintain awareness of scheduled pick-ups of donations in accordance with the established policy.
Reviews scheduled pick-ups to ensure they are scheduled for the correct day of the week and geographical location.
Organizes scheduled pick-ups by most direct routes to save time and fuel consumption.
Assists Truck Helper in lifting and stacking donations in the truck.
Prepares donations receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
Assist Truck Helper in unloading the truck at the warehouse.
Delivers appliances and/or furniture as requested by customers.
