About The Position

The Family Services Specialist I is an entry-level position performed under close supervision while the employee receives training in areas such as Adult or Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, Foster Care/Adoption, Child Care, and Employment Services. The employee carries out routine-to-journey-level casework, which is generally reviewed by a supervisor before case actions are implemented. After completing the training program and obtaining required approvals, the employee may be redefined as a full-performance Family Services Specialist II and become eligible for a pay increase under the local agency compensation plan. It also involves reporting, budget and expenditure tracking, coordination with other agencies, and serving as a resource to clients and the community. After-hours on-call coverage and emergency response may be required in child or adult protective services and/or foster care.
