This is a professional, entry-level position within Child Protective Services (CPS) where employees are trained in handling Family Assessment and Investigation cases, ongoing cases, and Truancy Cases. Employees perform routine to journey-level casework activities, typically reviewed by a supervisor before action is taken. Upon completion of training and necessary approvals, the employee will be reclassified to a full-performance Family Services Specialist II and become eligible for a pay increase. This role specializes in areas such as interviewing and assessing child abuse/neglect, out-of-home placements, guardianship, emergency protective orders, testifying in legal proceedings, and placing children in foster/adoptive homes. Employees will also engage with others and influence outcomes through task forces, strategic planning, mentoring, teaching, and conducting outreach.
