About The Position

Clark County Family Services is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Family Services Assistant position. As a member of our team, you will provide difficult, technical, and specialized office assistance, during the placement of children into various temporary care situations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for work related to our front desk and may also provide clerical support to operational or project-based initiatives. The candidate will be a part of the Placement Team and report to the Placement Supervisor. THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources. Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year full-time experience working with and caring for youth, families, adults and/or seniors in a human service program setting.
  • Thirty (30) semester units of college level course work in child development, nursing or behavioral science may be substituted for six (6) months of the required experience.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.
  • Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Drives a County or personal motor vehicle to transport children and/or family members, make home visits and other in-person contacts and to attend meetings.
  • Participates on various multi-disciplinary teams regarding clients.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its clients by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Works in a typical human services, detention, or public safety setting.
  • Uses standard office equipment, reads printed materials and a computer screen, completes case notes, court reports and other written materials documenting the safety, permanency and wellbeing of youth, families, adults and/or seniors.
  • Communicates in person or over the telephone.
  • Understands techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, often where relations may be confrontational or strained.
  • Interprets, applies, and explains applicable laws, codes, regulations to both clients and the general public.
  • Uses critical thinking skills to evaluate complex problems and alternatives.
  • Employs sound judgment consistent with various social work principles and practices when appropriate.
  • Works with the justice system and testifies in court.
  • Observes client behavior and environment and identifies deterioration or improvement in the client's lifestyle as well as evidence of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or isolation; reports observations to the supervisor.
  • Transports clients to and from appointments related to their case plan.
  • Processes referrals for clients to community agencies for services.
  • Assists clients in completing applications for various community-based services.
  • Works with Social Service and Family Services personnel to assist families in which children have been neglected, abused, or disabled.
  • Assists in reunification cases by providing various in-home services.
  • Provides on-going physical care, emotional nurturing and daily supervision of abused, neglected, abandoned and medically fragile children, ages three days to eighteen years, in a treatment shelter home.
  • Receives incoming children and inventory and inspects personal belongings.
  • Performs initial assessment when admitting you to Child Haven in order to determine any risk to themselves or others.
  • Prepares children for release from Child Haven.
  • Conducts and records bed checks.
  • Responds to emergency calls from other cottages on Child Haven.
  • Intervenes when children are out of control, using authorized strategies and restraint techniques.
  • Maintains a caseload specific to children in need of respite placement.
  • Calls foster parents to secure respite placements for foster children.
  • Completes various case management documentation regarding child placements.
  • Maintains tracking logs and databases to document placement attempts.
  • Completes foster parent questionnaires regarding placement availability and needs.
  • Transports children for routine pediatric medical services.
  • May facilitate the process of obtaining medical Passport information for children ages infancy to 18 years of age.
  • Obtains medical records and birth certificate information for clients.
  • Interacts with youth, ages 14-20, who are in foster care, in order to guide them to independence.
  • Maintains a caseload of assigned youth, keeping track of appointments and deadlines, meeting all required deadlines.
  • Seeks community resources for youth in foster care and who are aging out of foster care.
  • Works with the youth to complete the Youth Plan for Independent Living and update the plan every six months.
  • Works with the youth and professionals to assist youth in creating the 90 day transitional living plan prior to aging out of foster care.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of events in the community that support youth as they age out of foster care or to gain independent living skills.
  • Conducts casework interviews with clients, family members, service providers, employers and others to obtain information for formulating program/service eligibility and case status.
  • Identifies available community resources.
  • Provides basic life skills education to clients.
  • Supports the Intensive Case Manager's rehabilitative interventions reducing cognitive and behavioral impairments.
  • Prepares complete and accurate case notes; writes correspondence and other written materials.
  • Explains agency and program rules, regulations and procedures; assists clients in completing required forms and in gathering necessary documentation.
  • Maintains a caseload of assigned clients, keeping track of appointments, meetings, and all required deadlines; seeks community resources for clients.
  • Confers with supervisors and other departmental professionals regarding cases and scheduling to coordinate activities; attends and participates in in-service training.
  • Continues working with clients to help them maintain stable housing and self-sufficiency.
  • Provides various clerical and customer service support for community-based prevention, diversion and intervention programs.
  • Assists with scheduling appointments, preparing correspondence, and maintaining program records.
  • Greets clients and provides information regarding available services and community resources.
  • Enters data and maintains electronic and paper case files.
  • Assists staff with routine administrative support activities.
  • Provides administrative support for differential response and community-based programs.
  • Assists with appointment scheduling, referral processing, and maintaining case documentation.
  • Responds to routine inquiries from families and community providers regarding program services.
  • Maintains program records, files, and tracking systems.
  • Performs related clerical and office support duties.
  • Provides administrative and clerical support for behavioral health coordination activities.
  • Assists with scheduling appointments, processing referrals, and maintaining records related to mental health services.
  • Communicates with families and providers regarding appointment information and required documentation.
  • Enters and tracks service data within program databases and record systems.
  • Performs routine office support duties related to program operations.
  • Provides clerical and customer service support for centralized intake and service coordination activities within the Department of Clinical and Community Services.
  • Receives and routes incoming calls, walk-in inquiries, electronic referrals, and requests for information regarding available programs and services.
  • Assists with scheduling appointments, processing referrals, and maintaining intake records and documentation.
  • Provides information regarding community resources, program services, and referral procedures to families and partner agencies.
  • Enters and maintains data within electronic databases and case management systems.
  • Assists professional staff with routine administrative and follow-up activities to support timely access to services.
