About The Position

Effective 6/30/2013, positions within the City of Roanoke which contain "Social Work" will be reclassified to "Family Services". This change is being made to comply with The Code of Virginia § 54.1-3709. The City of Roanoke is seeking a Family Services Aide to perform human support work in providing a variety of services for agency clients. This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); experience and/or training in the human services field; or equivalent combination or education and experience. Applicants must have possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Bilingual, Spanish/English speakers encouraged to apply. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Performs human support work in providing a variety of services for agency clients.
  • Provides transportation of children and youth for visitation and appointments.
  • Facilitates client access to service resources, e.g. clinic, doctor, counseling, vocational, recreational, etc.
  • Supplies information about agency and/or community resources and facilities to neighborhood residents.
  • Provides supportive services to homebound clients (elderly/sick).
  • Instructs groups and/or individuals in homemaking and/or parenting skills as needed.
  • Verifies data, assists clients in making arrangements for various services.
  • Prepares and maintains files, mailing lists, and records.
  • Prepares closed case files for storage and purges outdated files and materials.
  • Assists Family Services Specialist and/or Family Services Supervisor in determining client needs, monitors case progress and maintains dictation of activities.
  • Provides testimony in court as needed.
