About The Position

This role involves supervising the implementation of Head Start Performance Standards and Texas Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing requirements when designated as the Center Director. The Family Service Worker will recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start program, maintain relevant children's information, and generate reports/memos as required. A key responsibility is maintaining and monitoring family demographics and enrollment data in the web-based database (PROMIS), and motivating families to participate in program activities. The position requires maintaining working relationships with supportive agencies and institutions involved with Head Start families, attending staff training, and supporting Head Start families in enhancing their children's well-being and academic success. The role may also involve performing other duties assigned by the supervisor and working on weekends, holidays, and/or evenings for special assigned projects.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have no criminal record or criminal charges pending
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with liability insurance
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English
  • Must have or be willing to obtain First Aide/CPR certification
  • Must have a clear TB and physical examination before first day of employment
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have 60 credit hours of college with emphasis in social service area and/or one year experience in social services
  • Must be skilled in data entry

Nice To Haves

  • Have an associate's degree in social services or related field
  • Be enrolled in a program leading to a baccalaureate degree in social services or related field
  • Be Bilingual – able or willing to learn to speak, read and write English and Spanish
  • Be a local resident of Cameron or Willacy County
  • Be a person sensitive to the needs of the poor and disadvantaged

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the implementation of the Head Start Performance Standards and Texas Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing requirements when designated as the Center Director
  • Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start program
  • Keeps relevant children information for Head Start and Early Head Start
  • Generate reports/memos as required by the Family Services Content Area
  • Maintain and monitor the family demographics and enrollment data in web based database (PROMIS)
  • Motivate families to participate in program activities
  • Maintain working relationship with all supportive agencies and institutions involved with Head Start families such as schools, churches, county welfare department, clinics, and poverty programs
  • When necessary will be expected to attend staff training through pre-service and in-service workshops
  • Supports the efforts of Head Start families in the enhancement of their children's healthy wellbeing and academic success
  • Performs any other duties assigned by supervisor relative to program operations
  • Works on weekends, holidays, and/or evenings on especial assigned projects and/or tasks on request of the Executive/Head Start Director
