About The Position

The Family Service Advisor provides administrative support to the Director and assists management as requested. They assist families with the selection of grave spaces and burial arrangements, and perform other duties as assigned. The position requires using personal judgment in carrying out routine duties and responsibilities of the cemetery and providing care to grieving families in a comforting and spiritual manner, aligned with Catholic Teaching. This job description reflects management's assignment of essential job responsibilities and does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned. All duties and standards will be performed according to established Diocesan policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Compliance with BCI&I background checks.
  • Completion of Protecting God's Children program.
  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Previous experience is preferred but not required.
  • An understanding of communications and the Catholic perspective.
  • The ability to serve others.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Typing, data entry, and 10-key calculator skills required.
  • The ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to customers, clients, and other employees of the Diocese.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to maintain all information highly confidential.

Responsibilities

  • Assist families with burial arrangements, selection of crypts, niches, grave spaces, and monument or marker selection.
  • Manage all paperwork, follow-up, and coordination involved in assisting vendors and families.
  • Handle funerals, including receiving information from funeral directors, filling out invoices and contracts, entering data into the computer, and reviewing funeral information with families.
  • Update the weekly funeral list and all other related schedules.
  • Assist the general public in locating family members, answering general questions, and aiding families with genealogy searches.
  • Perform general office and operational duties, including ordering supplies, inventory control, and safety procedures.
  • Mail information to family members to generate pre-need sales of spaces, mausoleum crypts, monuments, markers, vaults, and vases.
  • Conduct outreach, including preplanning seminars and parish activities to educate and develop leads.
  • Assist the Director with various projects as needed.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local safety laws.
  • Maintain a neat and safe work area.
  • Pass competencies for this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
