About The Position

Akicita Federal is hiring a Family Practice Physician to deliver comprehensive primary and walk-in care to the Navajo community served by the Indian Health Service in Pinon, AZ. Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Family Practice or a closely related primary care specialty.
  • Valid, unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Arizona (or eligibility to obtain one).
  • Active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license authorizing prescribing authority.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated experience providing family practice or primary care services, including walk-in or urgent care.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Active Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Prior clinical experience working with Native American or other underserved rural patient populations.
  • Familiarity with Indian Health Service facilities, workflows, or federal healthcare delivery environments.
  • Experience using the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) or other federal EHR platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions for patients of all ages presenting in a walk-in clinic environment.
  • Conduct thorough patient evaluations, including history-taking, physical examinations, and ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including prescribing medications and coordinating specialist referrals as needed.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and completely in the electronic health record system in compliance with IHS standards.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff, case managers, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity and quality of patient care.
  • Provide patient education and counseling on preventive care, chronic disease management, and health maintenance.
  • Respond to urgent and emergent clinical situations within the clinic setting, applying sound clinical judgment and appropriate protocols.
