About The Position

The Family Practice Physician (FPP) will provide comprehensive clinical, preventative, and therapeutic medical services to eligible beneficiaries at NMRTU Meridian, MS. This role involves examining, diagnosing, and treating patients of all ages for various health conditions, performing minor procedures, interpreting tests, and prescribing medications. The physician will also be responsible for accurate electronic health record documentation, providing guidance to ancillary staff, and initiating referrals. Services must adhere to military medicine standards, clinic protocols, and the standard of care.

Requirements

Possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada, or possess equivalent foreign medical education with permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine Residency Program.
Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP).
Maintain a current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC). Web Based classes are not acceptable. Life Saver classes must be hands on and possess the emblem from the above referenced associations.
Possess and maintain a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
A minimum of one (1) year of recent clinical experience as a Family Practice Physician.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.

HCWs identified as MHS Genesis Super-users shall undergo an additional 8 or more hours of information systems orientation.

Responsibilities

Examine, diagnose, and treat patients across all age ranges for acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and general health maintenance.
Perform minor surgical and clinical procedures.
Order and interpret laboratory and radiological tests.
Prescribe appropriate medications.
Document all patient encounters promptly and accurately in the required electronic health record system.
Provide medical guidance to ancillary clinic staff (including Corpsmen and nursing staff).
Initiate referrals to specialized care when clinically indicated.
Perform a full range of Physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF.
Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other HCPs within the scope of clinical privileges or responsibilities.
Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members.
Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic illnesses.
Provide comprehensive management of common medical conditions for a diverse patient population.
Conduct routine wellness exams, prescribe immunizations, and provide health promotion and disease prevention counseling.
Perform required military physical examinations, including periodic health assessments (PHAs), deployment-limiting medical condition evaluations, and separation/retirement physicals.
Perform occupational medicine examinations including pre-employment/in processing evaluations, baseline health examinations, periodic occupational medical surveillance, and administrative examinations, such as fitness-for-duty, return to work, short- and long-term disability and disability retirement examinations.
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient records within the designated DoD Electronic Health Record (EHR) system (e.g., MHS GENESIS) in accordance with MTF standards.
Coordinate patient care by generating appropriate referrals to medical specialists and ancillary services when clinically indicated.
Collaborate seamlessly with a multidisciplinary team of military and civilian healthcare professionals, including nurses, corpsmen/medics, and administrative staff.
