About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a 0.1 FTE family physician for Sheway, a program located at 533 East Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC. This is a 6-month temporary contract with the possibility of becoming permanent. Sheway is an interdisciplinary outreach program dedicated to supporting pregnant individuals who use substances and their children. The program offers a comprehensive range of services, including primary medical care, antenatal and postpartum care, nutrition support (with daily hot lunches), counseling, social work, infant development services, housing support, and group classes. The physician will report to the Medical Director and will be part of an interdisciplinary team providing evidence-based, quality care to a marginalized population. Responsibilities include delivering direct clinical services, fostering a collaborative inter-professional practice environment, and enhancing client-centered services within associated clinics and programs. The role involves working within a self-directed team to achieve excellence in client-centered care in a complex, multi-site environment. This is not a Primary Care Network Opportunity.

Requirements

  • A Medical Degree and eligibility for licensure, in good standing, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
  • Current Canadian Medical Protection Association, or equivalent, coverage.
  • Eligibility for a faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia, School of Medicine.
  • Admitting privileges for intrapartum obstetrics (or intention to obtain) with BC Women’s Hospital (preferably) or another hospital.
  • Associate privileges (or intention to obtain) with Vancouver Coastal Health.
  • Experience in and a commitment to caring for marginalized populations.
  • A demonstrated ability in working as a member of an inter-professional health care team.
  • A passion for providing maternity care.
  • A trauma informed approach to care.
  • A commitment to participate in new methods in health improvement and care delivery, including shared care.
  • An interest in clinical teaching.
  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC)- Full/Provisional.
  • Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP)- Mandatory.
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)- Mandatory.
  • Health promotion and prevention strategies.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to patients from diverse ethnic backgrounds and/or with diverse cultural beliefs and practices.
  • LGBTQ2S healthcare.
  • Trauma informed practice and culturally safe care for Indigenous peoples.
  • Communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted infections, HIV, Hepatitis C.
  • A desire to serve complex clients.
  • An interest in supporting chronic disease management models of service delivery.
  • Comprehensive family practice background.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team setting.
