This role provides general and preventative care, conducts check-ups, treats illnesses, orders lab tests, and prescribes medication for children and adults. The position requires the ability to make decisions reflecting knowledge of diseases and care required, perform head-to-toe assessments, formulate and evaluate individualized plans of care, and make appropriate explanations to patients regarding procedures. The role also involves monitoring patient and physician satisfaction, maintaining current medical knowledge, performing History and Physical exams proficiently with high documentation compliance, and keeping the Rural Health Clinic Medical Director informed of unusual occurrences. The Family Nurse Practitioner must demonstrate competence in providing age and gender-appropriate care, treating patients and families with respect, and abiding by hospital policies and procedures. Vaccination is required as a condition of employment, unless an exemption is requested and received.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Certified with National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Initial Certification and meet the regulations of NC Board of Medical Examiners, OR Nurse Practitioner meeting regulations of North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Must be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment (unless the new hire has requested and received an exemption).
  • Criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen required upon conditional job offer.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in rural health is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general and preventative care.
  • Conduct check-ups.
  • Treat illnesses.
  • Order lab tests.
  • Prescribe medication for children and adults.
  • Make decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases/surgical conditions, care required and good judgment.
  • Perform a head to toe preoperative assessment on all patients and reassess as needed, including pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
  • Formulate an individualized plan of care as indicated and evaluates for effectiveness.
  • Make appropriate explanation to patients regarding procedures.
  • Monitor patient and physician satisfaction and follows through on needs identified through the monitoring process.
  • Maintain current basic medical knowledge.
  • Demonstrate competence and skill in the application of knowledge.
  • Perform History and Physical exam proficiently.
  • Ensure record keeping is accurate, complete and timely, with 95% or higher compliance with documentation proficiency.
  • Keep Rural Health Clinic Medical Director informed of unusual occurrences.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age and gender.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Abide by policies and procedures of AMH.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.).
