About The Position

Meridell Achievement Center is a 134-bed, seclusion free, psychiatric residential treatment facility located northwest of Austin. Our 60-acre campus is complete with mature oaks, rolling hills, and plenty of walking paths and outdoor spaces. We have 7 unique living units separated by gender, age, and development needs, a swimming pool, gymnasium, sports court and playing fields. We provide 24-hour psychiatric care to girls and boys ages 10 to 17 years old with customized therapeutic approaches and intensive behavioral programs to teach young patients to moderate their behavior, manage emotions and improve social functioning. WE ARE LOOKING FOR A FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER TO WORK SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS. The Family Nurse Practitioner provides direct client care, including assessing, diagnosing, planning, and prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment of health problems, health promotion and preventive care within this specialized area of practice. In addition to direct practice, the sub-roles of the Nurse Practitioner role include education, research, and consultation. The Nurse Practitioner is involved in practice activities with the goal of improving the quality of care in both the outpatient and inpatient setting.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing from an accredited program.
  • A minimum of two (2) years direct clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
  • Current State License; Nurse Practitioner specialty licensure
  • Current Driver’s License
  • Current CPR Certification
  • CPI Certification
  • Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnoses, & interventions with patients.
  • Knowledge of milieu management.
  • Ability to direct subordinates in the performance of their duties.
  • Ability to accurately administer medication and monitor side-effects.
  • Ability to safely implement treatment procedures.
  • Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation

Nice To Haves

  • One year inpatient psychiatric experience with adults, adolescents and/or children preferred.
  • One year of progressive experience in management and/or supervision preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plans, and delivers care for patients with all psychiatric disorders.
  • Provides short term and ongoing medication management to inpatient clients.
  • Provides education as needed for patients, families, and significant others about psychiatric medication, psychiatric conditions and care giver interventions.
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed and brief telephone assessments for adverse events and patient's clinical concerns.
