About The Position

Mary Washington Healthcare provides training, in association and cooperation with its affiliated participating institutions, in graduate medical education programs that meet the standards established by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and its Residency Review Committees. The position of Resident Learner involves a combination of supervised, progressively more complex and independent patient evaluation and/or management functions, formal educational, and research activities. Provision of healthcare and other professional services provided by the Resident Learner is commensurate with the Resident Learner's level of advancement and competence, under the general supervision of appropriately privileged attending teaching faculty. Resident Learners must meet program requirements specific to their discipline, as well as board eligibility requirements in order to successfully complete training.

Requirements

Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification, required
AHA ACLS Provider required at hire OR Graduates of institutions approved or accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or other official accrediting body recognized by the AMA, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, or the Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools, required

Responsibilities

Participate in the clinical evaluation and care of patients in a variety of patient care settings with sufficient frequency to achieve the competencies required by their discipline under the supervision of the attending staff.
Perform procedures, which are specified by each program director, under the direct supervision of attending physician.
Assume progressive responsibility for patient care activities according to resident's level of education, ability and experience.
Communicate effectively with their supervising attending regarding the findings of their evaluation, physical examination, interpretation of diagnostic tests, and intended interventions on a continuous basis.
Participate fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the program and, as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and students.
Participate in appropriate institutional committees and councils whose actions affect their education and/or patient care including, but not limited to quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
Develop a personal program of learning to foster continued professional growth with guidance from the teaching staff.
Abide by all policies and procedures, including the provisions of the GME Policy and Procedure Manual, the residency training programs and the regulations of any affiliated institution to which the resident may be assigned.
