About The Position

Nova Scotia Health is seeking two physicians to join the Middleton & Area Family Health Centre. This center is a collaborative environment with nine family medicine physicians, residents, nurse practitioners, nurses, and allied health professionals. The team works together to provide comprehensive patient care, including same-day appointments, minor procedures, and inpatient coverage at Soldiers Memorial Hospital (SMH). The clinic utilizes the MedAccess electronic medical record system, and administrative staff can assist with billing for activities outside the clinic. There is a strong encouragement for physicians to contribute to the community, with opportunities in inpatient rotations, evening/weekend clinics, Emergency Medicine at SMH, nursing homes, and other areas of interest. The center also serves as a training site for family medicine residents and undergraduate medical learners. The health-care centre is a spacious 12,600 sq ft building located adjacent to SMH, serving a catchment area of approximately 40,000 people. The environment is designed for physical and psychological safety, with ample space for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Requirements

  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
  • Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness.
  • Be accountable for appropriate workload and practice.
  • Provide continuum of patient care with health care providers within your practice and/or community.
  • Provide care and coordination of community-based care, secondary and tertiary level health care.
  • Build to capacity within the first two years.
  • Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
  • Work toward same day or next day access for the practice population.
  • Work in collaboration with other team members in the practice to best suit the community’s health needs.
  • Work with other providers to provide after-hours access and emergency coverage when required.
  • Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities.
  • Utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) and record all relevant patient details in a provincially approved EMR which is accessible to all collaborating team members.
