About The Position

Discover what it means to Practice Differently with Carrier Sekani Family Services as a Family Guidance Worker. As part of the Child Safety & Family Guidance team, you will apply your experience in child protection to shape the paths forward for Indigenous children, youth, and families. You will help children stay connected to what matters most while supporting families on their journey toward healing, strength, and wellness. While based in Prince George, your work will often bring you into communities across our service region, building meaningful relationships and providing support where it is needed most. As leaders in Indigenous health and family services, Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) is committed to practicing differently by placing culture at the centre of everything we do. Working in partnership with Nation Elders, Hereditary Chiefs, communities, and families, we have grown since the late 1980s into a trusted organization of more than 615 employees serving 11 member Nations across Northern British Columbia. Through culturally grounded services, we honour the strengths, experiences, and values of Indigenous peoples while supporting the health and well-being of the communities we serve. Guided by Indigenous ways of knowing and being, our Child and Family teams believe that meaningful change begins with strong relationships and access to the right supports. Through advocacy, prevention, education, and resource navigation, we help individuals and families build on their strengths and overcome systemic barriers. Ultimately, our work helps build the stability and support needed for members to exercise self-determination within their families and their communities.

Requirements

Bachelor of Social Work or Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care
2 years’ experience working with children and families in a related role
C6 delegation and training as a social worker, and/or must be eligible for C6 child protection delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) in British Columbia

Responsibilities

Help create safety, stability, and hope for children and youth by responding to concerns, assessing needs, and guiding decisions that support their wellbeing.
Build trusting relationships with families, helping them navigate challenges, strengthen protective factors, and create pathways toward healing and lasting wellness.
Champion each child's right to remain connected to their family, culture, community, and sense of identity while supporting meaningful plans for their future.
Advocate for the best interests of children and youth through informed decision-making, legal processes, and coordinated supports that protect their long-term wellbeing.
Partner with caregivers, Indigenous communities, and service providers to bring together the resources, knowledge, and support needed for children and families to thrive.
Uphold culturally grounded, trauma-informed practice that honours the strengths, experiences, and self-determination of Indigenous children, families, and communities.
Maintain thoughtful documentation and accountability practices that ensure children, youth, and families receive consistent, responsive, and effective support.
