About The Position

The Family Enhancement Assistant delivers direct safety-related services under the direction of an assigned Supervisor, working closely with DCFS Child Protection Specialists and Intact Family Services staff. This role focuses on teaching practical life skills, supporting safe parenting practices, assisting with household management, monitoring and implementing safety plans, and promoting family stability. Services are designed to enhance household functioning, strengthen parenting capacity, and ensure the safety and well-being of children. You must be willing and able to safely enter and provide services in high-risk homes and community environments.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
  • Have the ability to fulfill all of the regulatory requirements for employees of Child Welfare Agencies as are prescribed in Illinois Administrative Rule and Procedure, including successfully completing the background check investigation clearances from the Sex Offender Registry, SACWIS, Illinois State Police, FBI, and Federal Office of the Inspector General as well as certification as a driver of children by the Illinois DCFS.
  • Be able to keep a flexible schedule, including evenings, nights, and weekends based on family needs.
  • Be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Be committed to the agency’s vision, mission, philosophy, structure, and goals with an ability to work as part of a treatment team.
  • Have sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the community.
  • Be able to lift 30 lbs and climb stairs.
  • Be able to carry car seats to and from the office and children’s home.
  • Be able to physically attend to young children and infants.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an assigned caseload and deliver services based on individualized family needs.
  • Teach and model essential household management and parenting skills — including child supervision, budgeting, meal planning, grocery shopping, hygiene, basic healthcare, safe sleep, water safety, and fire safety.
  • Assist families in accessing community resources and support systems.
  • Observe, monitor, and document family interactions to support child safety and service planning.
  • Provide supervised visitation between parents and children when assigned.
  • Transport clients as needed to support service participation.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members regarding client progress and concerns.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and supervision.
  • Complete required documentation and billing support activities in a timely manner.
