About The Position

The Family Development Associate position is within the Child Well Being and Family Wellness Department, specifically for the Emergency Shelter program at Casa Seguras. This is a regular full-time, non-exempt role with a pay rate of $25 per hour. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with the possibility of weekend and evening hours up to 7:30 p.m. SBCS (formerly South Bay Community Services) is a mission-driven organization with over 50 years of experience providing a wide range of services to support the well-being and prosperity of children, youth, and families throughout San Diego. They offer safe shelter, transitional housing, intervention prevention programs, and mental health support, partnering with grassroots organizations to enhance services and ensure culturally appropriate, trauma-informed care. The ideal candidate is an advocate for nurturing communities, energized by direct engagement with individuals and communities, and deeply cares about the well-being of all children and youth in San Diego. This role involves program management, development, and direct counseling services for at-risk children, adolescents, and families.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in social work, psychology or related field required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in child, youth and family services field.
  • Experience working with families impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and crisis intervention.
  • Possess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals who present for services with high-risk needs.
  • Ability to communicate positively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, and other employees.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural competency, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program.
  • Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.
  • Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver’s license and valid auto insurance policy. (Approximately 30% of the time.)

Responsibilities

  • Provide case management, crisis intervention, safety planning, court accompaniment and other services relative to program goals and objectives.
  • Provide advocacy, and referrals to other services for clients.
  • Conduct strengths-based assessments and develop service plans with clients.
  • Ensure flexibility of scheduling to meet the needs of SBCS’ clients, including providing services on weekends and evenings as required.
  • Complete all required case file documentation in a timely and routine fashion.
  • Facilitate coordination of services as well as contacts with other organizations and individuals, as necessary to effectively serve clients.
  • Utilize the Agency’s approved database.
  • Maintain client case files in accordance with Agency standards.
  • Attends required meetings and training.
  • Participation in special projects and activities, as related to agency’s goals and objectives.
  • Crisis intervention services, and referrals via telephone and in person to walk-ins.
  • Attend all agency required meetings and trainings.
  • As other duties assigned.
