About The Position

The Family Counselor position aims to implement a program that assists students, families, and school staff in developing better life-coping skills to foster a more productive learning environment for students. This role involves planning and executing a family counseling program tailored to the needs of the students, school, and community, while also providing inservice training to staff on its implementation. The counselor will develop materials and strategies for the program, counsel individuals and families on personal and behavioral concerns, and coordinate school and community services. Record-keeping of conferences and confidential reporting to staff and agencies are essential. The position also requires staying updated on relevant literature and ensuring adherence to safety procedures and school board policies, federal, and state laws.

Requirements

  • An earned master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years successful experience as a family counselor, school counselor, clinical psychologist, social worker, rehabilitation counselor, or any other full-time counselor who has demonstrated professional expertise in helping clients (individuals and families) in changing behavior and attitudes.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a family counseling program designed around the needs of the student, school, and the community.
  • Inservice the staff in the implementation of the program.
  • Develop materials and implement strategies for a family counseling program.
  • Counsel students, families, and staff on personal behavioral concerns.
  • Coordinate school/community services to students and families.
  • Keep records of conferences and send reports, within the limits of confidentiality, to the school staff and community agencies.
  • Evaluate periodically the effectiveness of the program as requested by the principal and guidance director.
  • Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as school board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
