The Family Counsellor is responsible for providing brief intervention mediation and counselling to families referred for parent-teen conflict. This role utilizes evidence-based brief intervention and strength-based methodologies to support funder-indicated goals, balancing these with relationship-based practice within a strength-based, trauma-informed approach. The Family Counsellor will also lead and facilitate groups as required. A strong theoretical understanding of family systems, mediation, communication, abuse and neglect, and child and family development is necessary, along with working knowledge of Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) policy and procedures. The position requires a solid understanding of adolescent development, mental health, addictions, and trauma-informed practices, along with strong assessment skills and the ability to report child protection concerns, including a solid understanding of the effects and indicators of child abuse.
