About The Position

Carya’s Families in Community team supports families with children aged 0–6 in building connection, strengthening caregiver-child relationships, and supporting early childhood development. Through group programs and one-to-one support, the team creates welcoming opportunities for play, learning, and meaningful connection across Calgary neighbourhoods including East Village, Downtown, Inglewood, Ramsay, Bridgeland, Bowness, and Montgomery. Grounded in a relational, strengths-based approach, we walk alongside families as they build confidence, expand natural supports, and connect with resources that support their wellbeing and sense of community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience working with families, including engagement with young children (ages 0–6) and supporting caregiver learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships using a strengths-based, participant-centered approach.
  • Experience working in community-based settings and collaborating with partners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage both caregivers and children.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, including scheduling, communication, and administrative tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Word, Teams, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and insurance are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and attachment theory is an asset.
  • Experience facilitating groups and presenting information in a clear, engaging, and accessible way.
  • Experience supporting families in one-to-one settings is an asset.
  • Experience with family programs such as Parent-Child Mother Goose, Circle of Security, Theraplay, or Infant Massage is an asset.
  • Training in frameworks such as the Natural Supports Framework or Core Brain Story is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Build meaningful relationships with families across settings, including one-on-one support and group facilitation.
  • Facilitate engaging, inclusive group experiences that support caregiver-child connection, participation, and learning, including programs such as Parent-Child Mother Goose, Infant Massage, Circle of Security, Parent Chat, and drop-in play.
  • Respond to the developmental and relational needs of families by providing guidance, resources, and opportunities that build confidence and strengthen relationships.
  • Create welcoming environments by fostering trust, encouraging participation, and adapting to the needs of families and the community.
  • Apply a strengths-based, participant-centered approach in all interactions.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with families, community partners, and colleagues to support coordinated and responsive service.
  • Support families in connecting with relevant community resources and natural supports.
  • Use sound judgment, creativity, and adaptability to navigate dynamic environments, shifting priorities, and real-time group or family needs.
  • Manage scheduling, communication, documentation, and administrative tasks as required to support effective program delivery.
