The Family Advocate will be responsible for working in collaboration with parents, staff, childcare providers, and agency(s) to provide families with resources, information and assistance. This role serves as a resource to parents, childcare providers and agency(s) regarding programs and services offered in the community. The Family Advocate works with school staff and community-based organizations to strengthen home and school relationships and empower parents to participate in school activities and to take responsibility for their child’s learning. The position also involves establishing rapport with all students and families, providing relevant resources and information, and establishing links with appropriate service providers and community agencies. Additionally, the role coordinates, develops, and implements parent/community resources designed to enhance parent involvement and impact student achievement. Administrative duties include preparing and maintaining records and reports, communicating with teachers regarding student's health or family needs, maintaining confidentiality, assisting in the development of community/health service resources, and ensuring parents receive information on discipline, testing, and achievement issues. The Family Advocate empowers and encourages families to utilize identified resources. Facility and Personnel Development responsibilities include providing training for staff, parents, and volunteers, assisting schools with family recruitment, collaborating with colleagues, and providing ongoing support to families and students. Performs other related duties as assigned.
