About The Position

Join Us in Equipping Families to End Homelessness At Family Promise of Spokane, we believe no child should ever experience homelessness. Our mission is to equip families and the Spokane community to end the cycle of homelessness. We are seeking a compassionate, dependable Part-Time Family Advocate to join our shelter team. This role is perfect for individuals who want to make a tangible difference, thrive in a collaborative environment, and are ready to step in when families need support the most. This is a part-time role with weekend and holiday hours. Requirements

At least one year of experience working with families or individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or crisis—paid or volunteer. Lived experience is valued.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure.
Problem-solving and using sound judgement in a fast paced environment.
Time management skills.
Able to follow-through with tasks consistently.
Able to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
Demonstrate emotional intelligence.
Ability to engage diverse populations with empathy, dignity, and respect.
Comfortable using Google Suite, Slack, and basic data entry systems.
Driving is considered a condition of employment: While working with families, you may need to drive families to appointments, etc.
Command of the English language and ability to clearly document case notes.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field preferred but not required. or equivalent experience.
HMIS experience a plus.

Responsibilities

Provide a safe, friendly, and respectful atmosphere for guest families, volunteers, and partners.
Offer compassionate listening, emotional support, and practical guidance to help families access services, resources, and case management.
Manage daily shelter tasks such as meal coordination, cleaning, laundry, and inventory, ensuring routines are followed and needs are met.
Support and guide volunteers, interns, and fellow team members to ensure effective teamwork and adherence to protocols.
Maintain accurate records of guest interactions, incidents, and operational updates. Communicate clearly through internal tools like Slack and Google Suite.
Monitor shelter activities, enforce safety protocols, and respond calmly and effectively in emergencies.
Welcome and train volunteer groups, fostering a spirit of collaboration, gratitude, and shared purpose.
Data Entry - must be willing to learn the Homeless Management Information System.
