About The Position

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Bristol County provides services to children and intellectually disabled adults who have been victims of severe physical abuse, witness to violence, or sexual abuse. Our staff serve as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide a sensitive and coordinated response to allegations and disclosures of child abuse. Using a collaborative approach and a child-centered, evidence-based model, our staff provide place and process for children, which enables the pursuit of justice, while minimizing the trauma experienced by the child and beginning the process of healing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology or related field.
• Working knowledge of the criminal and civil court system and victim’s rights laws.
• Proficient with computer skills.
• Background and driving record checks will be performed.

Responsibilities

• Supporting victims’ rights and coordination of services and court preparation for child victims and their families for all cases referred to the Children's Advocacy Center.
• Being a member of a multidisciplinary team responding to allegations of child sexual/severe physical abuse, neglect, or witness to domestic violence.
• Establishing and maintaining connection with mental health/community providers to assess scope of service, credentialing, and insurance.
• Forming a supportive relationship, conducting informal assessments, and providing case coordination and case management for children and family members as needed.
• Referring non-offending caregivers and family members to appropriate clinical services based on assessed need.
• Supporting ongoing victim and family advocacy needs and acting as a primary source of communication between victims and the criminal justice process.
• Providing victims and families with information regarding legal issues, child abuse, systems, and roles.
• Assisting families with victim compensation needs and application, issues related to court procedures, court hearings, and can be present to support families at court proceedings as necessary.
• Providing support for victims during medical exams, forensic interviews, working with police, and maintaining relationships with families such that if/when community support is needed (i.e. housing, school issues, etc.) the advocate can accompany and support the non-offending caregiver to meetings/appointments as deemed appropriate.
• Advocating for victim/family in case triage and case review MDT meetings.
• Executing mental health referrals, providing crisis management as needed, and assisting with mental health service delivery, tracking, and mental health capacity building program.
• Maintaining required documentation in NCAtrak (or any other tracking system) and maintaining accurate tracking, charting, and documentation of all referred cases.
• Assisting with community outreach, education, and professional development training as needed.
• Assisting with agency functions related to operations and service delivery.
• Participating in agency fundraising, grant writing, and other documentation and statistical requirements as needed.
• Participation in fundraising events during the day and evening is required.
