About The Position

Performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks required in the cleaning and maintaining of the County buildings with a primary focus on the fairgrounds. This position requires the employee to work a variety of shifts depending on task assignments and event needs. Works under the supervision of the Fairgrounds Maintenance Foreman and performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures, and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments. This position has no supervisory responsibilities Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class. Performs basic maintenance including minor building repairs and painting. Performs various semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair work using a variety of hand and power tools. Assists in maintaining and preparing arenas for scheduled events. Cleans livestock pens; assists in building or set up of animal pens, portable stalls and grandstands. Performs set-up, take-down and custodial duties for fairground events including setting tables, chairs, drapes, bleachers and panels. Ensures grounds are unlocked/locked as necessary. Performs grounds maintenance to include mowing, weeding, pruning trees and shrubs and planting and maintaining flower beds. Maintains sprinkler system including replacing sprinkler heads, programming timers and maintaining the irrigation system. Performs shoveling and snow removal as necessary; either manually or using machinery. Provides labor during events including driving equipment (tractor and water truck), trouble shooting problems and providing minimal maintenance. Provides high level customer service. Performs custodial duties including general clean-up, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, running the floor machine, cleaning carpets, washing windows, taking out trash and cleaning doors, walls and ceilings. Attends all applicable meetings including staff and safety meetings. Keeps records on work performed and time allocated. Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Requirements

  • A High school graduation or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in facilities maintenance and grounds care.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and the skill to organize materials and present information clearly and concisely in verbal and written form.
  • Must understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must have proficient knowledge of the English language, proper grammar, punctuation and spelling in other oral and written communication and have the ability to write routine reports and correspondences.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and standard operating procedures required for this position, as well as, basic how-to documents and manuals.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations and members of the community.
  • Must have a strong customer focus orientation and have the ability provide information, answering questions and taking messages.
  • Must be able to accept interruptions in a polite and effective manner.
  • Must have the ability to be an effective team member and maintain sensitive and confidential information.

  • Must be able to effectively use modern office technology and equipment, including computers, calculators, telephone, copiers with scanning and faxing capabilities.
  • Must have fundamental experience with word processing, database manipulation, spread sheets, email, and the knowledge to save and retrieve documents from a variety of destinations and sources.
  • Must be able to learn the software and programs related to the position and the County.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours on an as needed basis.
  • The operation of tractor, arena groomer, fork lift, backhoe, water truck, saws, drills, lawn mowers and other hand and power tools used in the area of responsibility.
