About The Position

The Faculty Professor - Full-Time position serves as a Principal Faculty member in the PA Studies Hybrid Program. This role involves developing, reviewing, and revising the program's mission, goals, and competencies. Key responsibilities include selecting applicants, providing instruction in basic sciences and clinical skills, evaluating student performance, offering academic counseling, and ensuring remedial instruction is available. The position also entails designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum, as well as assessing the overall program. Teaching responsibilities are focused on the didactic year, covering specific courses like Introduction to the PA Profession, History Taking and Physical Examination I and II. In-person requirements include immersions, commencement, and accreditation site visits. The role also includes the specific function of Director of Curriculum, managing curriculum development, maintenance, and evaluation, ensuring compliance with ARC-PA standards, and chairing the curriculum committee. Additionally, the professor will engage in research, scholarly activity, and contribute to the strategic initiatives of the university, school, and department, with a focus on diversity and inclusion. This includes representing the program on committees, participating in professional organizations, maintaining certifications, and fostering a collegial environment. The role also involves assisting with policy development and upholding departmental standards.

Requirements

  • Prior teaching, scholarship, and/or research experience at the professional level.
  • Five or more years of experience in clinical practice as a Physician Assistant.
  • Current National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification.
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field.
  • Three or more years as full-time faculty in an accredited PA program.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, reviewing, and revising the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the PA Studies Hybrid Program.
  • Selecting applicants for admission to the PA program.
  • Providing or contributing to student instruction in basic sciences, history and physical examination, and other assigned courses.
  • Evaluating student performance and providing academic counseling.
  • Assuring the availability of remedial instruction.
  • Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum.
  • Evaluating the PA Studies Hybrid Program.
  • Managing the development, maintenance, and evaluation of the entire program curriculum.
  • Managing the curriculum review process and maintaining curriculum compliance with ARC-PA standards.
  • Collaborating with the SHRS Office of Digital and Continuing Education (ODCE).
  • Providing direction, leadership, and advice on curriculum design, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Supervising the development of curriculum plans.
  • Providing direction in gathering and storing curriculum data.
  • Developing and deploying a foundational infrastructure for competency-based education (CBE).
  • Evaluating the effectiveness and impact of CBE and refining its implementation.
  • Communicating changes in curriculum and program standards.
  • Managing, maintaining, and revising the catalog regarding curriculum and course descriptions.
  • Designing and managing the annual program curriculum review process.
  • Coordinating the systematic review and evaluation of the curriculum and assessment functional area.
  • Serving as the Chair of the curriculum committee.
  • Collaboration and engagement in research and other scholarly activity.
  • Communication and advancement of the strategic plan and initiatives of the University, School, and Department.
  • Representation of the program on department-, school-, and university-level committees and in community service activities.
  • Active participation in local, regional, and national PA educational and professional organizations.
  • Maintenance of applicable professional certification.
  • Support and participation in professional development opportunities and scholarly activities.
  • Maintain a collegial learning and working environment for faculty, staff, students, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in the upholding of current and development of new Department and Program policies and procedures.
