About The Position

Montgomery College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated part-time faculty member to teach Biotechnology at its Germantown Campus. The ideal candidate will exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed periodically based on student enrollment needs. Part-time faculty may teach a maximum of 11.5 ESH per semester and 23 ESH per academic year, with summer session limits of 10 ESH for both sessions combined. The hiring decision is based on academic judgment and is at Management's sole discretion.

Requirements

  • Masters in Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry or a related major with relevant courses.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Ability to engage students and teach in a belonging, multicultural setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and willingness to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
  • Access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without a sponsor.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in a related field.
  • Prior college level teaching experience related to introductory biotechnology courses.
  • Biotechnology industry experience.
  • For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.
  • Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned lecture and/or laboratory courses in the biotechnology discipline, including courses such as Introduction to Biotechnology, Introduction to Cell Culture, Aseptic Technique and Cell Culture Skills, Protein Biotechnology, Nucleic Acids Methods, and/or Immunological Methods.
  • Plan, prepare (development of course syllabi, assessments, etc.), present, and coordinate classroom instruction and related activities.
  • Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include daytime, evening, weekend and/or accelerated sections, with potential opportunities to teach summer session classes.
  • Follow guidelines from department course coordinators to ensure consistent content coverage and student experience across multiple sections of a course.
  • Administer, grade, and provide feedback in a timely manner to monitor student mastery and progress through a course.
  • Adhere to and enforce laboratory safety regulations.
  • Meet college-established deadlines to submit student mid-term and final course grades via an electronic information management system.
