Mercer University School of Medicine seeks a highly qualified educator with broad training and demonstrated experience or enthusiasm for teaching in a medical school curriculum. This is a tenure-track, 12-month faculty appointment based primarily on the Macon, Georgia campus. Additional duties are assigned during the summer, and the departmental assignment will be based on the candidate’s degree type and experience. Faculty are expected to teach across all three MUSM campuses—in Macon, Savannah, and Columbus—both virtually and in person. The selected candidate will work with the Chair of the Department of Bioethics and Medical Humanities and other departmental faculty to create an integrated ethics and humanities curriculum for pre-clinical and clerkship years. Teaching approaches include Team Based Learning and Problem Based Learning. The faculty member will also contribute to ethics education faculty development, teaching and grand rounds at affiliated medical centers, student projects and research in bioethics and medical humanities, and faculty committees. Faculty are expected to participate broadly across medical and graduate curricula and engage in scholarship in Bioethics and Medical Humanities. The position includes responsibilities for the department’s four-year bioethics and medical humanities certificate program and interdisciplinary work with the law, nursing, pharmacy, and theology schools. Mercer’s patient-centered medical curriculum emphasizes interactive and problem-based teaching and prepares physicians to address the healthcare needs of rural and underserved Georgia communities.
