About The Position

The School of Human Evolution and Social Change (SHESC) at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking to establish a pool of qualified applicants for Faculty Associate positions. These positions involve teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, both online and in-person, in areas such as Global Health, Environmental Social Science, Evolutionary Anthropology, Archaeology, Bioarchaeology, and Sociocultural Anthropology. Faculty Associate roles are fixed-term, one-semester appointments with no benefits and no tenure implications, not exceeding 0.40 FTE (1-2 courses per semester). The specific start date will vary based on assigned courses. The school is looking for individuals available to teach on ASU's Tempe campus and also those capable of teaching online courses.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in global health, environmental social science, evolutionary anthropology, archaeology, bioarchaeology, sociocultural anthropology, or a related social sciences or health sciences field at the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness or teaching support in specialized courses relating to the mission and curriculum of the School.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in global health, environmental social science, evolutionary anthropology, archaeology, bioarchaeology, sociocultural anthropology, or a related social sciences or health sciences field focused teaching.
  • Experience working in collaborative environments.
  • Experience teaching in Canvas.
  • Experience with online course development and administration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU’s Charter.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned courses, either in-person and/or online, in alignment with the School’s curriculum and mission.
  • Teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses in one or more areas within the School.
  • Develop and deliver engaging course content through lectures, discussions, readings, and other instructional activities.
  • Prepare course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments, in accordance with course objectives.
  • Evaluate and grade student work using established rubrics and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success.
  • Maintain an active instructor presence, including holding office hours and responding to student inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Utilize the Canvas learning management system to manage course content, communications, and grading.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff and adhere to university, college, and school policies and procedures related to instruction.
