About The Position

The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking knowledgeable and enthusiastic Adjunct Chemistry Instructors to teach lecture and laboratory courses that prepare students for academic success and careers in science, healthcare, engineering, and beyond. As an adjunct faculty member, you'll create an engaging and inclusive learning environment while delivering high-quality instruction using a variety of teaching methods and technologies. Courses may be offered in traditional classrooms, technology-enhanced environments, online, and at off-campus locations, with opportunities to teach daytime, evening, and weekend classes. At the College of Western Idaho (CWI), you will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment where problem-solving and innovation are valued, and your contributions directly enhance the efficiency of the institution.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in related field of study, with a minimum of 12 graduate credits in discipline
  • Experience teaching secondary level students in field of study.
  • Ability to adapt to variety of teaching methodologies including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, distance learning, and teaching with technology
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to professional growth and development
  • Proficiency in usage of internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications
  • Successful candidates are required to reside in Idaho by the first day of work for CWI.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years’ experience teaching field of study at post-secondary level preferred.
  • Successful experience teaching at a community college or with adult learners also preferred.
  • Experience using instructional technology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned chemistry lecture and laboratory courses in accordance with CWI curriculum and academic standards.
  • Create an engaging learning environment using a variety of instructional methods, including hands-on labs, demonstrations, technology-enhanced instruction, and online learning tools.
  • Foster critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and student engagement while maintaining high academic expectations.
  • Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to support learning and retention.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and course outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving students from diverse academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds while creating an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Participate in course assessment and instructional evaluation processes to improve student learning outcomes.
  • Incorporate assessment data and best teaching practices into course delivery.
  • Stay current in chemistry education, instructional technology, and teaching methodologies to enhance the student experience.
  • Meet all scheduled classes and fulfill instructional responsibilities in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Communicate professionally with students, faculty, and staff while maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Perform additional instructional and departmental responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the College.
