About The Position

The Fact Witness Coordinator at USAO EDVA (U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Virginia) plays an integral role in facilitating the participation and cooperation of victims and witnesses throughout the federal judicial system. This role involves affording rights and providing services under the Crime Victims' Rights Act. The coordinator will assist victims by identifying resources and referrals, help AUSAs locate and prepare witnesses for testimony, provide in-court support during hearings and trials, and keep victims informed of case developments and their rights throughout the prosecution. Requirements

  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient in word processing and data entry/retrieval
  • Ability to review, analyze, and assure accuracy of data from multiple sources
  • Ability to establish and maintain case/project files and enter/retrieve data from databases
  • Ability to prepare, format, and correct management reports and correspondence
  • Ability to schedule appointments and respond to case-related inquiries, including coordinating with outside agencies
  • Ability to prepare and deliver weekly activity reports
  • Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of, USAO computer systems
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Responsibilities

  • Assesses victims' immediate needs and provides referrals to crime victims and their families
  • Assists AUSAs in locating victims and assessing their ability to testify
  • Aids in preparing victims to deliver testimony and prepares victim impact statements
  • Provides in-court support during hearings and trials, including courtroom orientation and locating safe waiting areas
  • Assesses safety concerns and aids in victim safety planning
  • Informs victims of their rights and keeps them updated on significant case events
  • Assists victims with restitution applications and required documentation
  • Develops and maintains relationships with federal, state, and local law enforcement and social service organizations
  • Conducts community outreach, workshops, and victim assistance presentations
  • Provides clerical support, including word processing, data entry, and case file management
  • Prepares weekly activity reports detailing tasks completed and program related activities
