About The Position

The FACT Peer Specialist role is a part-time position (20 hours per week) that requires lived experience in receiving mental health services for serious mental illness and/or substance use conditions, with a minimum of 2 years in recovery. The specialist will use their personal recovery journey to provide knowledge and insight to clients, helping them achieve and maintain recovery and wellness. This role involves direct clinical services, documentation, participation in team meetings, and coordination with various stakeholders to ensure client needs are met.

Requirements

  • Has lived experience receiving mental health services for serious mental illness and/or substance use conditions and has been in recovery for a minimum of 2 years.
  • High School Graduate or GED Certificate required.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend oral instructions.
  • Must be willing to use or learn computer software.
  • Must have personal attributes suited to working in a team environment with persons with serious mental illness.
  • Capacity and willingness to achieve Florida Peer Recovery Specialist Certification.
  • Must be able to assist clients with similar disorders, who have forensic involvement.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Negative Drug Screening prior to hire and throughout employment.
  • Clear Criminal Background Check throughout employment with Suncoast Center and local checks prior to hire and annually along with DCF Level II prior to hire and as required by DCF.
  • Must have valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Motor Vehicle checks prior to hire and annually with acceptable driving record maintained throughout employment.
  • Must have reliable vehicle, valid registration, and valid vehicle insurance.
  • Must be in compliance with Florida Laws and Administrative Codes with fingerprinting and determined to be of good moral character.
  • Must be able to assist clients with severe and persistent mental illness who fit chapter 916.
  • Required to drive own car and/or company vehicle.
  • Must meet established insurance requirements.
  • Must have a driving record acceptable to Suncoast Center.
  • Computer Literate.

Responsibilities

  • Completes documentation correctly and accurately within the required timeframe, including progress notes, time cards, and other required documentation.
  • Provides direct clinical services using solution-oriented strategies and principles of recovery, consistent with best practices.
  • Incorporates client-oriented treatment plan goals, including symptom management and personal growth.
  • Participates in daily staff organizational meetings and treatment planning review meetings as schedule permits.
  • Discusses cases appropriately at staffings and calls in with client updates if unable to attend meetings.
  • Provides specific FACT services as designated by the team leader, ensuring clients have access to housing, medical/dental services, financial support, daily living skills, vocational assistance, leisure activities, and other requested services.
  • Cooperates and participates fully with the FACT Team Program as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in support of the overall mission of the FACT Team Program.
  • Coordinates with client's family members, other FACT staff, and community supports to ensure client needs are met.
  • Meets with team leader for supervision, discusses cases appropriately, and maintains excellence in work performed.
  • Accomplishes individual goals.
