Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine as a Facility Systems Technician for the Facilities Department at Hyde Park. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. Job Summary In the absence of the manager or as directed by manager, Monitors, operates and maintains pneumatic and direct digital controls associated with a computer networked building automation system (BAS). Performs work in accordance with Medical Center standards and procedures for Medical Center building and properties.

  • Monitors, maintains and adjusts current building automation systems and associated equipment.
  • Uses software configuration tools for BAS field processors to troubleshoot and diagnose system problems and perform preventative maintenance tasks. Completes basic system reporting.
  • Interprets building and machinery documentation to troubleshoot and make necessary modifications and adjustments. (This may include the Pneumatic Tube System)
  • Diagnoses, trouble-shoots and programs electronic and pneumatic building automation controllers.
  • Supports and helps educate new employees on shop protocol and systems.
  • Requisitions materials and supplies using in-house procedures as needed. Keeps working area safe and clean.
  • Uses various technology platforms to enter and access job related information.
  • Undertakes training related to job duties as necessary by the Medical Center or management.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Four years’ experience in HVAC maintenance, including two years’ experience maintaining computerized building automation systems required.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the work expected in an efficient manner.
  • Must have knowledge of safety rules, practices and equipment.
  • Must be capable of strenuous physical activity.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer functions associated with peripheral devices and network communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to write detailed reports and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work with other people.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate with others by writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical functions relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems.
  • Prior experience working for building automation system controls contractor or firm preferred.
  • Completion of job-related apprenticeship program.
  • Completion of Associates degree in related field preferred.
  • Advanced job-related training programs.
  • Completion of job-related associates degree (AA).
  • Advanced training in controls and building automation system operation and repair.
