About The Position

The Southwest Florida Water Management District (District) is a government agency dedicated to protecting water resources, minimizing flood risks, and ensuring public water needs are met for nearly 6 million people in west-central Florida. The General Services Bureau plays a crucial behind-the-scenes role in maintaining the organization's smooth operation. This internship offers hands-on experience in building, grounds, and facilities maintenance, contributing to environmental protection in Florida. This internship opportunity is not eligible for remote work and all work will be conducted in the District's Brooksville, FL office.

Requirements

  • Be at least part-time current enrollment in high school, an accredited college, university, or other recognized educational or vocational program
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
  • Provide a copy of Official school transcript within 30 days of employment
  • Upload Unofficial Transcript to application or profile
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of construction, maintenance and proper use of hand and power tools
  • Preferred Degrees: Engineering, Construction Management, Vocational, Technical
  • Preferred Degree Level: Undergraduate

Responsibilities

  • Assist Facilities staff in the ongoing maintenance of District facilities and grounds, including lawn mowing, pressure washing, exterior building maintenance, landscaping and furniture moves.
  • Provide apprentice-level assistance to Facilities staff on more complex plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical or carpentry jobs.
