About The Position

The Facility Security Officer (FSO) plays a critical role in ensuring the security and compliance of an organization with government regulations related to classified information and sensitive materials. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining security programs that protect personnel, physical assets, and information systems. The FSO acts as the primary liaison between the company and government security agencies, ensuring all security requirements are met and audits are successfully passed. This role requires a proactive approach to risk management, continuous monitoring of security practices, and prompt response to any security incidents or breaches. Ultimately, the FSO safeguards the organization's ability to operate within regulated environments and maintain its security clearances and contracts.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the security responsibilities.
  • Experience working in a security role within a government-regulated environment, preferably with defense or federal contracts.
  • Knowledge of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) and other relevant federal security regulations.
  • Strong understanding of personnel security clearance processes and facility security requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with government agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • The FSO utilizes their knowledge of federal security regulations daily to ensure the organization remains compliant with all applicable laws and guidelines.
  • Strong organizational skills are essential for managing multiple security clearance processes and maintaining detailed records.
  • Communication skills are critical when conducting training sessions and coordinating with government agencies to address security concerns.
  • Analytical skills help the FSO identify potential security risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Leadership and problem-solving abilities enable the FSO to respond swiftly to security incidents and guide the organization in maintaining a secure environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Facility Security Officer (CFSO) or similar security certification.
  • Experience with information security and cybersecurity principles related to classified information protection.
  • Familiarity with the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) processes and systems.
  • Prior experience managing security programs in a mid-to-large size organization.
  • Advanced training in risk management, incident response, or security compliance auditing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage the company’s security policies and procedures in compliance with government regulations.
  • Maintain and oversee the facility clearance and personnel security clearances, including processing security clearances and conducting background investigations.
  • Conduct regular security training and awareness programs for employees to ensure compliance with security protocols.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for government security agencies and coordinate security inspections and audits.
  • Monitor and investigate security incidents, breaches, or vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Manage the safeguarding of classified and sensitive information, including physical and electronic security measures.
  • Maintain accurate security records and documentation to support compliance and reporting requirements.
