About The Position

Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, is seeking a Facility Operator Trainee for its University Park, IL division. This role supports the operation of wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, booster stations, distribution systems, and the wastewater collection system for the Central IL region, with additional support for facilities in Bourbonnais, Manteno, and Peotone. The position involves maintaining equipment, operating and maintaining sewer collection systems, troubleshooting and repairing service piping, performing water quality analysis, making operational adjustments, and completing customer service work orders. Requirements

  • Possess a High School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Must obtain an IEPA-issued Class IV Wastewater Operator License within 18 months of employment.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Must be able to acquire a CDL (Commercial Driver's License) within 9 months of hire date and obtain Tanker Endorsement within 30 days after.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Email, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; this person will be expected to communicate effectively (clearly, concisely, and professionally) with internal customers.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment.
  • Must reside within 30-45 minutes of the plant.
  • Must be able to lift and move equipment in excess of 50lbs and possess the ability to work in confined spaces; a Lift test will be required as part of pre-employment process for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience working with wastewater treatment systems is preferred (but not required); experience working with Mechanical, Plumbing, and/or Electrical systems will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain equipment at the assigned wastewater production facilities and booster stations.
  • Maintain equipment at the wastewater treatment facilities and lift stations.
  • Operate and maintain sewer collection systems, including collections mains and pump stations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair service piping.
  • Perform routine water quality analysis in accordance with established processes & procedures.
  • Make operational adjustments as needed to comply with state & federal water quality standards.
  • Adjust chemical treatment to ensure water quality meets standards.
  • Calculate various ratios and dosages.
  • Complete customer service work orders: this involves updating / maintaining appropriate system documentation of activities and closing work orders in accordance with departmental policies & procedures.
  • Assists with other tasks or projects, as assigned.
