About The Position

This posting is for newly created vacancies for a Front Line Work Model. Reporting to the Facility Supervisor, the successful applicants will be required to assume a variety of maintenance and operational responsibilities at municipally operated recreation facilities in a seven day/week rotating shift schedule.

Requirements

  • Must have minimum Grade 12 Secondary School education.
  • A general knowledge of equipment and building maintenance is required.
  • Three (3) years full time or equivalent temporary experience in recreation facility operations (including at least one year in both arena and/or swimming pool operations).
  • One of the following requirements (combinations) are required: TSSA Refrigeration “B” Operator Certificate AND NSPF Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO); or ORFA Certified Arena Refrigeration Plant Technician (CARPT) AND NSPF Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO); or ORFA Certified Ice Technician (CIT) AND NSPF Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO); or Certified Aquatic Technician (CAT) AND ORFA Basic Refrigeration
  • Must hold a current Standard First Aid, CPR C and AED certificate.
  • Must hold a current WHMIS certificate.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation as it pertains to this position.
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License Class “G” with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and access to reliable transportation. Candidates must provide proof of their Class G licence at the time of the interview.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada

Nice To Haves

  • Post-Secondary education in a related field is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • All aspects of the day-to-day operations/maintenance of recreation facilities, including monitoring refrigeration equipment, monitoring filtration equipment, maintaining ice surfaces and other playing surfaces, accurate recording and logging of all operational information, painting, minor repairs, snow removal, exterior grounds maintenance, facility rental and program set-ups, floor maintenance duties that include sweeping, mopping and waxing, and maintaining the cleanliness of the facility.
  • Directing the work of part-time facilities staff.
  • Preparing for and overseeing facility rentals and programs.
  • Assuming responsibility for the security and safety of the facility and customers.
  • Upholding the Municipality’s commitment to customer service excellence.
  • Duties must be performed in accordance with all applicable legislation including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Technical Standards and Safety Authority Act as well as Corporate and Departmental policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
