The successful candidate will both operate the landfill facility and run the heavy equipment on site. The work moves between the two sides of the job throughout a shift. You may be pushing and grading with a dozer at the working face in the morning, issuing a Safe Work Permit to a contractor after lunch, and logging incoming fluids and balancing tickets before the end of the end of the day. We are looking for an experienced operator who is comfortable owning all of it, and who takes pride in safe, compliant, efficient operations.

  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, and email) for logs, tickets, and permits.
  • Strong communication skills for working with drivers, contractors, and site personnel.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to work well as part of a crew.
  • Willingness to work a 14/14 rotation and to be available for on-call support.
  • Strong commitment to safety and site compliance.
  • Must be local to Fort McMurray, AB.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in landfill, waste management, water management, or well operations.
  • Previous facility operations experience in oil and gas or mining environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate dozers and loaders within the landfill facility, including work at the active face.
  • Run the facility in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, and maintain and update those SOPs as site conditions change.
  • Interface with drivers, coordinate truck flow, and load and unload trucks safely and in accordance with site procedures.
  • Accurately track and log all incoming and outgoing fluids.
  • Issue Safe Work Permits and oversee third-party contractor compliance on site.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections, complete routine equipment maintenance, and schedule third-party contractors when repairs fall outside your scope.
  • Assist internal and external customers with logistics and build practical, site-specific working arrangements.
  • Perform hazard identification, participate in incident reporting, and maintain compliance with environmental regulations and operational approvals.
  • Manage administrative tasks including ticket filing and plant balancing.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe at all times.
