About The Position

Performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repairs on YMCA buildings, mechanical equipment, and other property. The role handles repairs and installations involving buildings, flooring, plumbing, electrical systems, and lighting, and responds to emergency maintenance requests as required. It also assists with building renovations and remodeling, including plaster and drywall repairs and interior and exterior painting. The employee is responsible for following staff safety requirements and department cleaning protocols throughout the day, as required. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 2–3 years of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Good skill in using hand and power tools.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, carpentry, and other maintenance-related areas.
• Adhere to the drug-, alcohol-, and smoke-free workplace policy.
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements and meet the Association’s background-screening policies; employment is contingent on completing required Level 2 screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
• CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Complete annual YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
• Complete annual YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class.
• Meet staff safety requirements and follow cleaning protocols.
• Complete additional training classes as recommended by the Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor and major repairs on buildings and equipment.
• Replace broken windows; repair doors and door locks; install window blinds.
• Install flooring of all types.
• Install and repair plumbing fixtures, including toilets, sinks, and urinals.
• Install electrical wiring and equipment; replace and repair lighting fixtures and ballasts.
• Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required.
• Assist with building renovation and remodeling, including plaster and drywall repairs and interior and exterior painting.
• Uphold staff safety requirements and follow department cleaning protocols throughout the day, as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
