About The Position

New Horizon Academy is seeking a full-time Facilities Technician based in our Des Moines, Iowa Market. This full-time position is responsible for supporting all day-to-day facility-related issues for assigned New Horizon Academy schools in the Des Moines, Iowa, Omaha, Nebraska and Kansas City, Kansas Markets. This position will require monthly overnight travel to support the Omaha and Kansas City schools. The Facility Technician will work directly with operations leadership, schools, vendor management, and procurement. The Facility Technician will also work with outside vendors to ensure the overall integrity and operational functionality of these facilities while maintaining aesthetics and safety standards. This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass the Applicant Background Study required by the Department of Human Services.
  • Must have documentation of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Must have the physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from a standing position or up to 30-40 lbs. climbing a ladder or lift above the shoulders.
  • Must be able to climb upon roof for routine maintenance.
  • Must be able to bend over and crawl on hands and knees.
  • Must be able to be on your feet 8 hours per day.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent experience in a relevant field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and coordinate routine maintenance and periodic preventive maintenance work required to keep New Horizon Academy schools in excellent condition.
  • Communicate with school staff to keep them informed about project schedules and the impact that projects will have on their daily activities.
  • Ensure that assigned schools comply with childcare licensing, health department and local building code requirements and regulations.
  • Complete light plumbing, electrical, HVAC and painting projects required to repair and maintain building systems.
  • Coordinate outside vendor work as needed to support schools.
  • Plan, assign, and supervise the work of service providers in coordination with the School Directors for advanced technical work such as advanced HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing work, Parking Lot overlays, Roofing, Concrete work, etc.
  • Monitor quality, cost, and schedule of service.
  • Works with Facilities Maintenance Supervisor to gain approval for work proposals and to ensure prompt payment of invoices.
  • Maintain company vehicle and coordinate any necessary repairs with Fleet Manager to ensure that vehicle is in safe, clean working condition.
  • Ensure facility safety for children and staff.
  • Follow safety guidelines at all times.
  • React quickly and professionally in emergency situation.
  • Manage online work order requests.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and keep all tools and equipment out of reach of children
  • Attend regular Facilities & Construction meetings and follow up with action items.
  • Coordinates with Facilities and Construction Vendor Manager to schedule and coordinate testing and building inspections as needed for existing properties.
