About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Facility Maintenance Manager and Lead Facility Maintenance Technician, the Facility Maintenance Technician Assistant is responsible for maintenance tasks, event set-ups, and custodial services across various organizational facilities.

Requirements

  • Must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
  • Ability to get along with co-workers.
  • Ability to read and understand procedure manuals, instructions, diagrams, etc.
  • Ability to speak and understand English.
  • Familiarity with most common hand, power tools, and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to be detail oriented and extrapolate information to find solutions.
  • Current California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as determined by ASI.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year related experience in building maintenance or operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Removes graffiti from external, internal, and bathroom walls.
  • Maintains the upkeep of the loading dock, terraces, patios, food court, and courtyard.
  • Replenishes supplies and cleans restrooms.
  • Assists in setting up, taking down equipment for events and straightening up various rooms, including transporting equipment and setting up stages.
  • Verifies the proper operation of lighting fixtures and replaces lamps as needed also keeps inventory of needed lamps and informs the Facility Maintenance Manager when inventory is running low.
  • Assists full-time staff with interior and exterior painting projects, including all needed wall repair, patching, sanding, priming, and painting.
  • Completes appropriate activity logs and reports.
  • Assists with air filter changes on Fan-coil units, HVAC units, Air Handlers. Assists full-time staff with Preventive Maintenance of HVAC equipment. Performs mechanical room cleanup.
  • Performs bowling lane maintenance, including semiweekly wiped downs and lubrication of moving parts. Monitors pinsetters during events and troubleshoots stops.
  • Assists with basic pool maintenance to include, but not limited to, pool vacuuming, conducting/monitoring daily equipment and pool chemistry checks, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Assists with general repairs and routine maintenance as assigned by supervisors and reports special problems and conditions to the supervisors for needs assessment.
  • Attend meetings, trainings and workshops as required.
  • Always presents a professional appearance and attitude and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  • Performs minor furniture repair and maintenance.
  • Performs minor small equipment repair such as replacement of cord ends, tightening fasteners, etc.
  • Assists with furniture reconfiguration and assembly.
  • Assists with minor plumbing tasks such as drain unclogging and flush valve repairs.
  • Performs weekly washes of the company carts checks battery water levels in the carts, replenishes water in the batteries if needed, checks the tire air pressures and brings them to recommended levels.
  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly tasks as determined by Preventive Maintenance Schedule, including AED and fire extinguisher checks, utility readings, and hydration station checks.
  • Drive university vehicles as needed including ASI carts, van and/or truck to complete various maintenance tasks, event set-ups, and custodial services across campus in various organizational facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.
